How To Build A Daily Skincare Routine
When it comes to skincare, we are faced with different routines, rules, and products that are supposed to give us the complexion we’ve always dreamt of. But with beauty gurus, different skin types, new product launches, and routines for different times of day, it can be a daunting conversation.
Where do we even begin? Can we mix and match product lines? Are some products only for day time and some only for night time? What exactly is a toner, and how do we apply it? If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking of these questions, don’t fret.
Sure, there are people out there with a 12-step skincare routine, but by following the basics, we promise you can have glowing skin, too!

What’s your skin type?
Oily, Dry, or a combination of both? Whichever type, there’s a routine out there just for you. If you had breakouts in your teen years and a slightly oily face, you may have stuck with that routine for combination skin. Well, it might be time to take a deeper look — what does you skin actually need at this point?
It’s important to figure out what skin type you are so you can treat it accordingly. You don’t want to have dry skin while treating it with facial cleansers and moisturizers made for oily skin and depleting your skin of its natural oils, making it more dehydrated and flaky.

Cleanse and tone
Removing debris from your skin is always a good idea. It’s important to cleanse at night to remove makeup, dead skin cells, and any other free radicals your skin came into contact with throughout the day before snuggling into bed that night.
As important as it is to cleanse, you should only be washing your face at night and using water, a gentle makeup wipe, or a toner in the morning so you’re not running into any issues of dry skin. But, what’s a toner? A toner is an absorbing liquid that aids in the removal of excess dirt, oil traces, and even corrects and balances the pH of your skin. You can apply this in the morning before your moisturizer and again at night after washing your face, before your moisturizer.
Moisturizing
No matter your skin type, keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized is a step you just can’t miss! Proper hydration ensures your skin is healthy, hydrated, and plump. It’s an important step to keeping rough and flaky skin at bay.
When picking out the perfect moisturizer for your skin, though, keep in mind that you are looking for one that is specific to you and your skincare needs. Sure, some packaging might catch your eye with how it glitters and it’s on sale, but is that the one for you?
Think about what your skin needs — are you feeling dehydrated? Are you oily and just want to top your skin routine off with a light moisturizer? Are you also wanting to target fine lines and wrinkles? Whatever your answers are, be sure that your moisturizer is reflecting that.
Sunscreen
I know we could say this over and over but, use a sunscreen always! Sunscreen — other than a hat or umbrella — is the only thing that we have to protect our skin from the sun’s harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays. Every time the sun hits us for more than 5-10 minutes at a time, it’s damaging the skin. Don’t even get us started about those terrible sunburns, no one wants that!
Sunscreen should be the cherry on top of your new skincare routine to tie everything together.
