Dysport is a wrinkle relaxer derived from botulinum toxin products that help to safely diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Most clients use Dysport for moderate to severe problem areas, such as the forehead, frown lines, upper eyelids, neck, and the lines between the eyebrows.
How does Dysport work?
Wrinkles are formed by repetitive expressions that occur when facial muscles contract. Dysport works by temporarily blocking signals from the nerves to the muscle preventing it from contracting for 3 months or more.
In a sense, facial wrinkles are like the creases on a crumpled ball of paper which get diminished when unfurled and smoothed out. When contraction is prevented, the muscle lengthens, effectively relaxing the wrinkles on the overlying skin.
How is it different than other forms of wrinkle relaxers like Botox and Jeuveau?
Dysport, Botox, and Jeuveau are injected the same way and works the same way for wrinkle reduction, jawline slimming, and excessive underarm sweating.
Think of it like Coke and Pepsi – essentially similar cola products. Dysport will occasionally take effect faster than Botox due to its smaller molecular size, but this outcome will vary from person to person. Neither Botox or Dysport is proven to last longer than the other. Jeuveau reportedly lasts a bit longer. Metabolic speed, among other factors, dictates how long the results of the treatment will last.

What are units and how much do I need?
All medications have measurements that describe the amount of the active ingredient measured by weight (milligrams, grams, etc.). In this case, each unit is a measure of wrinkle-relaxing capacity.
The ratio of Dysport to Botox or Jeuveau units is 3:1, given that Dysport is a much smaller molecule. So if you needed 10 units of Botox or Jeuveau to the forehead, it would be 30 units of Dysport. All products have the same active ingredient, are injected, and behave similarly, so you are unlikely to notice any difference during treatment. You should consider trying options to see which works best for you. Total cost of treatment for Dysport, Botox, and Jeuveua are about the same despite the 3:1 ratio.
Dysport treatment can range from 12 units (lip flip) to 180 units (jawline slimming) based on the area. The most common treatments are crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead, usually 150 to 180 units for those three areas combined.

What to Expect
Before Your Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment
You don’t need to do anything special to prepare for your Dysport treatment. Just come as you are, with makeup or without. Try to stay away from alcohol, blood thinners and NSAIDs like Advil for a few days before your treatment, as they increase the risk of bruising.
During Your Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment
The actual treatment usually will take less than five minutes. It’s just a few small pokes, and they are almost painless! Most people report no discomfort at all, as the needle is much thinner than the one used to draw blood. There is no numbing medicine administered for these injections because none is needed!

After Your Treatment
On average, Dysport takes 3-5 days to kick in. For deeper static lines (present at rest) it can take a few weeks to see changes in the skin as it continues to repair while the muscles are relaxed. You can resume your normal activity right after your treatment.

Results
Dysport can last up to 4 months. Your metabolism and a wide variety of factors can vary the onset and your results with Dysport. As the product wears off, the previously treated lines and wrinkles may begin to reappear. It’s similar to getting a haircut or highlights, and requires maintenance!
If lines are treated with Dysport on a regular basis, they tend to remain more superficial. The longer you are treated, the longer your results will last!
