BOTOX

Botox is one of the most popular aesthetic services in the United States. These wrinkle relaxers are FDA approved to help improve the signs of aging. Botox diminishes fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by relaxing the muscles where it is placed, blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. When the muscles are relaxed, as a result of the wrinkles they were forming soften, and sometimes completely go away! Botox also works by making the muscles smaller, so it can also be used for jaw slimming and for sweat reduction under the arms.

How is Botox measured?

Botox is measured by the unit. A unit is simply the measurement used to determine the amount of Botox given. All medications have measurements that describe the amount of the active ingredient of the medication (milligrams, grams, etc).
Similarly, medications that are biologically derived are measured in units! Each vial of Botox usually contains 100 units. A typical Botox treatment for the face is 50 to 60 units. Don’t worry, 50 units don’t mean 50 injections.

How many units of Botox do I need?

Most of our clients receive Botox to temporarily improve problem areas like the forehead, crow’s feet, neck bands, moderate to severe frown lines, and the areas around the brow. Some treatment areas need only 5 units, while others may need 30! The most common treatments are crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead, usually 50 to 60 units.

Our Master Providers are expertly trained to evaluate your concerns and advise you on the best course of action. A completely free, no-obligation consultation with one of our Master Providers is available to all of our clients at any time to advise you on exactly what you will need!

While you won’t know exactly how many units you need until you visit us, here’s a quick guide on the typical amounts used in each area for most clients:

What to Expect

Before Your Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment

You don’t need to do anything special to prepare for your Botox treatment. Just come as you are, with makeup or without. Try to stay away from alcohol and NSAIDs like Advil for a few days before your treatment, as they increase the risk of bruising.

During Your Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment

The actual treatment usually will take less than five minutes. It’s just a few small pokes, almost painless! Most people report no discomfort at all, as the needle is much thinner than the one used to draw blood. There is no numbing medicine administered for these injections because none is needed! Your Master Provider will go over your areas of concern, talk through your treatment, and discuss the results you can expect.

After Your Treatment

Botox takes 7-10 days to fully set in. Although you’ll probably start noticing results on day 3, on day 10 you’ll truly see your complete results. You can resume your normal activity right after your treatment. Many of our clients get treated before work, during their lunch hour, or after work and return to their day with no sign of having been treated!

Alternative Botox Uses:

Botox for Excessive Sweating

Botox can also be used for more than just relaxing wrinkles! Over the last decade, it has proven to be helpful in preventing excessive sweating, also known as Hyperhidrosis. It is typically injected under the arms, actually blocking the message from sweat glands to secrete sweat. These injections have been shown to decrease sweating by up to 87%, with results lasting 3-6 months.

Botox for Facial Slimming

Botox injections have also been shown to slim the appearance of a “square face” by concentrating injections in the masseter muscle (the muscle around the jawline). With proper administration, this muscle will relax and actually give the face a narrower appearance!

This is a great option for people who clench and grind their teeth at night, as the Botox relaxes your muscles and can ease the tension that carries over into your day. The amount used during the treatment will vary for each client due to biological factors and the severity of the muscles to be treated.
From wrinkle relaxing to sweat prevention, Botox is truly one of the best non-invasive aesthetic treatments out there.

Results

Results take around 7-10 days to appear and are FDA-indicated to last 3-4 months. Your metabolism and a wide variety of factors can vary the onset and your results with Botox. As the product wears off, the previously treated lines & wrinkles may begin to reappear. It’s similar to getting a haircut or highlights, and requires maintenance!
If lines are treated with Botox on a regular basis, they tend to remain more superficial. The longer you are treated, the longer your results will last! Studies have shown that after two years of denervation, muscles atrophy; which means they get smaller and weaker. So if you continuously treat the muscles that are causing your lines with Botox, they will be less likely to create wrinkles!

Potential Risks

Botox is one of the safest cosmetic treatments available! Long-term study results have shown that 853 treatment sessions with Botox over a 9 year period resulted in no side-effects for 99% of participants.

The potential risk of Botox is allergic reactions and side-effects, which are extremely rare. Some people experience headaches for a few days after getting wrinkle relaxer treatments. It’s important for potential clients to discuss any known skin infections, muscle or nerve conditions, known allergies, or medications during your free consultation to ensure your Master Provider chooses the best treatment for you.
