WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. We use state of the art, physician grade technology called the Skin Pen Precision II. The fine needles of this device are used to minimally puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. In these microscopic punctures, a channel is created that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin.
We provide complimentary numbing with this procedure. Allow 1hr total for your appointment.
HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?
- Skin texture and firmness
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Crepey skin around eyes
- Reduction in scars
- Pore size
- And stretch marks.
Microneedling can be done on areas of skin that may not be suitable for peeling or laser resurfacing, such as around the eyes and mouth, hands, and chest. The procedure is well tolerated by patients with minimal downtime, and can be easily personalized by going deeper on some areas where skin damage requires a more aggressive approach.
The total procedure including numbing usually takes about an hour. Makeup shouldn’t be applied for 24-48 hours post procedure.
Usually, multiple treatments will be necessary for the best results. The number of needling sessions depends on the individual’s skin condition. Three or four treatments may be recommended for mild to moderate acne scarring, whereas deeper scars and stretch marks may require upward of five treatments. An interval of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments is typically recommended. Maintenance treatments at intervals of 6 to 12 months. When utilized for generalized skin resurfacing, products such as topical growth factors like TNS Essential Serum and anti-aging serums are better absorbed in the skin as an adjunct to treatment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD AND UPGRADED MICRONEEDLING?
Our Standard Microneedling utilizes the Blue SkinPen Precision II, the most advanced FDA approved microneedling pen on the market. This includes an application of CeraVe Dermal Repair Cream during and after treatment. Our Upgraded Microneedling treatment package uses our Blue SkinPen Precision II device, and combines your microneedling with an included application of medical grade moisturizing and repair serum (Sente Dermal Repair Cream) during the treatment. Afterwards, a cucumber calming mask treatment is applied to help speed healing and reduce redness. If the client desires, we also apply Oxygenetics mineral makeup so she/he can go right back to their day afterwards – with no downtime!
Regardless of which version you try, microneedling is AMAZING for improving skin texture and firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, and fine lines around the eyes. Even when your procedure includes no topical treatment, the rush of collagen and elastin to heal these microscopic wounds created by microneedling improves the skin’s appearance and reduces signs of aging, pore size, and acne scars.
SkinMedica offers a line of products containing TNS, a compound which promotes skin healing and is a great addition to your post peel regimen. Remember, daily sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater is recommended to maintain your improved skin.
